Adjusted Rates For Hurricane Evacuees, Volunteers, & First Responders
Last Wednesday, Hurricane Michael devastated portions of Florida’s Gulf Coast. While Destin and 30A made it out from the storm with little to no damage at all, Hurricane Michael left our neighbors to the East in ruin. The storm made landfall near Mexico Beach as a Category Four with sustained winds of 155 mph. Hurricane Michael was the first Category Four hurricane to hit the Florida panhandle in history and it was the first major hurricane (category three or above) to make landfall here since Hurricane Dennis in 2005. Furthermore, it’s the strongest storm to make landfall in the United States since Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
Approximately 375,000 people were ordered under mandatory evacuation for Hurricane Michael.
Unfortunately, many who live in PCB, Mexico Beach, and the surrounding areas have nothing to return home to now that the storm has passed. Rows upon rows of homes were completely demolished and so many are left with nothing.
While locals are doing the best they can to support each other, there’s no denying that this is a very difficult time for the Florida panhandle. Thankfully, there are so many people donating their time and money to aid in hurricane relief. So many individuals are unable to return to their homes after the storm. Many evacuees are staying with family, friends, or kind-hearted strangers.
At Five Star Properties, our heart goes out to all those affected by the storm.
